ILP #1- Design

I made a brief Prezi presentation about the history of space travel in the first half of the 20th century- it's not extremely in depth but good to show to maybe a group of younger students who don't know much about this specific topic. LINK

These are screenshots from the website for my high school, Stanton College Preparatory. The website provided class pages for all four grades, detailing specific information that each may need, as well as more basic information about the school and programs within, such as the Advanced Placement program and the International Baccalaureate program. LINK Im not sure that I am going to end up going into the education field, although it is a possibility, because Im just a first year student and I’m planning on going to grad school after my BA, and I have quite a few years before I have to decide what Im going to try to do with my degree. I can definitely see myself using all of the different educational technology that Ive seen in this class and in the tech sandbox if I do go into education, and If I go into something like the film industry, which is my minor, theres a whole bunch of other technology I will be using. Even though history is the study of times that are usually a lot le

Although social media generates a lot of negativity, especially in the world of academia, due to its tendency to distract students, I think it can prove very helpful in the classroom. In my own experience, students being able to easily link up with each other to compare notes, study together or discuss lessons no matter where they physically are is invaluable, and a very effective way of studying. Things such as facebook pages for certain classes or groups or google hangouts where students can complete a group project from each of their homes and transportation isn’t an issue make a lot of homework a lot easier to manage.   A good web 2.0 tool that can be used for teaching which I made a lot of use of in high school is google drive, especially the version where several people can edit a document at the same time. This is especially useful in assigning group projects, as not only can the students easily communicate and collaborate, teachers can see exactly who did what and

Assignment 3: Web Evaluation- High School History

First Website: Database This database is one of the most commonly updated and effective historical databases, and its focus on American history could be used for classes such as AP US History or AP US Government. It has a similar search function to Jstor but better articles, so I like to use it better, but it does require a subscription to be able to access it. All articles are peer-reviewed and thus good sources to cite in a paper. Second Website: PBS History Documentaries PBS is well known for their collection of history documentaries, ranging from Ken Burns to The American Experience, ranging in time period from the far past to the current present. I've found that in High School especially students don't enjoy sitting through lectures for a full class period, so this is a useful tool to find videos that are both informative and entertaining, and that help the students pay attention to whats going on. All of the documentaries are well researched and peer reviewed.

I have been enjoying my experience with using twitter in an academic manner. I’ve communicated with the twitter accounts for Microsoft office and been able to see and retweet updates about educational technology throughout the world, in a variety of fields. I can see twitter being useful in interacting with students and with other people in my fields. I think the main cause of the digital divide is economic and social inequality, due to the fact that those who live beneath the poverty line aren’t able to afford necessary technology. As a teacher, its important to make sure that even if a student cannot complete an assignment with the technology that they have at home, they are able to make use of resources such as a media center. In my own experience, the educational software that I would make the most use of in the classroom would be programs such as Microsoft office and google drive, which include things like PowerPoint, word, excel, google slides and g

I think that out of all of the ELA technological standards, I am most qualified to teach “multimedia: history and social studies”. Not only have I taken predominantly history courses in college due to the fact that I am a history major, but I feel like most of the technological projects I’ve had to do for any class have been history related. I know very well how and where to find source material and so I could pretty easily teach students how to do the same. The standards that require more learning on my part are definitely any and all math and science standards, as I am not very good at either of those subjects and haven’t taken many courses on them.  The new skills that I developed due to my newsletter project were mostly the design aspects of word, how to add columns and certain things to make the newsletter look better. I also learned how to make the date and time auto update, which I did not know was possible. I feel like to improve it, I could possibly be a little more crea
