I used Adobe Photoshop to create this poster advertising Plutarch's Life of Alexander the Great, something that I'm doing research on in another class. This could be used in a classroom setting as something to decorate a room with and pique student interest in the subject.

I think what excel can most be used for in the way of data collection will be reporting grades. It can also be used to have an online sign up sheet or general data collection for students, but I think grades are what it is mostly used for. Im not particularly planning on becoming a teacher, but if I did teach history it could be a good way to record dates or statistics for certain time periods.  I think the topic that I found most interesting when viewing my classmates blogs are the developments in educational technologies like what we saw in the tech sandbox, and how everyone thinks they can put those technologies to use in their classrooms. I also have like reading how everyone thinks social media can be used in an educational setting, because its not something you talk about very much and its such a big part of all of our lives. I would maybe like to learn some low level coding or software programing, because I think its a very useful and highly marketable skill in pretty

“The Flipped Classroom” has been described as “online instruction at home that frees class time for learning”. I think that this style of learning has some great advantages: people who aren’t able to attend class due to a bunch of different reasons; disability, transportation issues, or other responsibilities can still get a great education. It could lead to some issues such as an influx of internet based cheating, but I think the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. Here is a link with more information.  The three main open terms used in this podcast are “open education”, “open source” and “open content”. The general advantage to these things are the reduced costs of education, something that is very important due to the insanely increased costs of textbooks and other resources for the classroom, such as E-clickers. Adaptive technologies can be used to support learners in a large variety of ways, as there is such a large variety of adaptive technologies. Social media websites such as twitter or facebook have been a part of my education throughout high school and college, as a way to interact with other learners and my instructors. I use Twitter for this specific class, and I have made use of facebook groups and group chats as well as a study tool. It of course can be difficult to ensure access to adaptive technologies within classrooms, as new technology is often very expensive and not every student can afford to stay up to date with the trends. Students could also take the opportunity of endless communication that the internet affords them and use it to complete their work dishonestly, such as paying someone else to do it or taking someone else’s answers.   Forbes is a great website to use to stay up to date on technology trends. 

TOOL #1- YouTube Teachers can use youtube not only to learn from others videos but to post videos of their own for students in and out of their classrooms to see. A good example of this that I can think of would be crash course lectures by the Green brothers. TOOL #2- Pinterest Pinterest has a unique organizational methodology that could be very useful for mapping lessons and other academic things, and teachers can make their own as well as search for others boards using keywords.
